Annual Thanksgiving Home Improvement Project

ATHIP, for short.

Before we moved here, we celebrated Thanksgiving like most people: a big meal with family and friends. After moving here, we came to the conclusion that it was the family get together we enjoyed, not the traditional meal. In fact, none of us really like turkey. Only a couple like stuffing. We all like potatoes and pie, but we eat them fairly often.

So we decided to skip the big meal and go out to dinner and the movies on Thanksgiving Day. (This year, we are disappointed with the offerings, so we may skip the movie.) We also decided that Thanksgiving was the perfect time to tackle home improvement projects. Painting, installing new flooring, anything we could do ourselves.

This year, my husband will be installing new interior doors. I am painting the balusters and trim. When we finish, I'll share before and afters.

Walking the dogs

My husband and I walked along the South Platte today with the dogs. The weather was perfect, and we were the only ones on the path most of the morning.

Jeb was a very good dog. I hitched him to this gate while I took a picture. He looked so cute.

This is the picture I took while Jeb was tied to the gate. I took more of Jeb than the tree.

Trixie was almost a good dog. Her new harness has eliminated the pulling, but she still zig zags like crazy.

The river was running fairly well for so late in the year. There were still a few ducks around, too, despite the snows we've had.

Such a relaxing way to spend the morning!

Blue skies, nothing but blue skies

This is what the sky usually looks like where I live. This was this afternoon, about 1:15.

Periwinkle progress

Even though I haven't had any finished items to show you for about a month, I have been knitting away. I'm working on this sweater. I've redone parts of it several times, and I keep changing my mind about the neckline, but that's all just part of the fun that is knitting.

I've included a close up of the color, because it is such a lovely heathered yarn.

Other than knitting, and school, and driving people here and there, I have not been very busy lately. I cleaned my closet this week. Very fun. Seriously. I love decluttering, and I got rid of a bunch of unflattering and ill fitting things. That did give me pause with my sweater, though, because I decided to go in a different direction with the neckline based on what I removed from my closet.

Last week, my daughter drew wizards. Many wizards. These are a few of them.

My son, the musician

Just thought I'd share a couple photos of my son, warming up before church this morning. I always enjoy hearing him practice and play at home, but even more do I love his desire to use his musical talent to worship the Lord.
